Clevedon Town manager Alex White says his side can’t afford to get “emotional” at Shepton Mallet or they will get beaten by The Mallet again in the Toolatation Western League Premier match.

Josh Jenkins scored the winner for Shepton Mallet in the 83rd minute last Wednesday (December 6) to inflict a first league defeat on the Seasiders at the 13th time of asking.

And White said this afternoon’s game is not about revenge, despite feeling “hurt” after their 1-0 defeat 10 days ago.

“I think revenge is a strong word but the defeat against them last week hurt, I don’t think I hid away from that,” he said.

“But let’s not forget Shepton are one of the form sides in the division and Sevs (Aaron Seviour) is doing an ace job there, I really respect them as a side and a club.

“Now we have to use that disappointment and channel it in a positive way on Saturday. If we’re emotional then we’ll get beat again.

“We’ve got to come up with a game plan, box clever and hope we have enough quality on the day to take a result from the game.

Clevedon returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win at Brixham last Saturday.

Harlee Vozza scored a 87th minute winner to help Town pick up their first win in three games.

And White said that everything will be wasted if they don’t build on their performance with another one at Shepton Mallet.

“I think it will feel a bit of a waste if we don’t follow up Saturday’s great away win with a positive result Saturday now,” he added.

“We want to build on the good start and prove that the bubble hasn’t burst and maintain the consistency.

“Of course we’re not going to win every game and we’ll take more knocks before the end of the season but it’s the bounce backs that define your season and showing strong characters.”

This afternoon also marks the 300th appearance for captain Callum Kingdom, who made his debut against Sheraton Mallet on December 5, 2015 against today’s opponents, and has gone on to score four goals in eight years.

“Wow I wasn’t aware of that milestone and it seems like every five mins another 50 appearances pass by for Cal,” White said.

“He is Mr Clevedon, you will not find a more loyal clubman than Cal and everyone loves him to bits. I can’t imagine a Clevedon side without him and I think he’s arguably having his best season yet with us.

“He’s still not at his prime either and there’s more to come from him, so congratulations to him it’s a fantastic milestone.”
