Clevedon Town bounced back from their first League defeat of the season against Shepton Mallet to produce a gritty performance at wind and rain swept Brixham in the Toolstation Western League Premier after a 2-1 win at Wall Park on Saturday.

Driven forward by Brad Probert, in midfield, Town grabbed an early lead through Freddie King and although Brixham had more of the play Clevedon were always dangerous on the break and three minutes from time new loan signing from Chippenham Harlee Vozza grabbed the winner.

The Seasiders opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Henry Westlake won the ball and picked out King on the edge of the box to turn and shoot, with the ball flying over Grant Fisher helped by a slight deflection off Sean Adderley.

On 25 minutes Adderley went close with a shot which landed on the top of the net, then Elliot Nicholson’s powerful shot was parried by Fisher.

Brixham started to use the wind to their advantage. Danny Gaze grazed the top of the bar before Kieran Parkin’s free-kick wide on the left sailed over everybody and into the far top corner of the net for the equalizer after 33 minutes.

The hosts missed two opportunities before half-time when Parkin scuffed a shot wide, and Scott Robinson shot over as whistle blew with the teams still level at 1-1.

The second half opened in an absolute downpour and Adderley shot over again for Brixham and Owen Punselie saw his effort just wide. Clevedon escaped on 55 minutes when a through ball saw Glen Hayer slip but recover brilliantly and Parkin’s follow-up missed the target, with James Dunn out of position.

Clevedon brought on Vozza and James Wakefield for Joe Teall and Ethan Crossley as Punselie was sent to the sin bin on 73 minutes.

Clevedon, however, remained dangerous on the break and a good run by Probert was brought to a halt with a foul outside the box and King’s powerful free-kick was tipped on to the bar and over by Parkin.

And in the 87th minute the Seasiders found a way through to retake the lead.

Wakefield's wonderful ball sent Vozza down the left and his shot from a narrow angle was on its way in and Gaze on the line could only help the ball on its way as he attempted to clear as Clevedon completed a hard working league double against the Fishermen.

On Saturday, Clevedon visit Shepton Mallet looking for revenge following their midweek defeat.
