THERE will be chestnuts roasting in the street and the waft of Christmas spices in the air in Portishead this weekend.
On Friday evening the clocks will be turned back for the town’s Victorian evening.
High Street will be closed between 6.30-9pm to allow the traditional street fair to take over the town centre.
It is hoped that members of the community will enter into the spirit of things and dress in period costume, as well as the stall holders and shop keepers.
The Salvation Army band will play carols at the roadside, while a lorry stage at Tudor Garage will host a range of entertainment ranging from school choirs and dancers to bands and fiddlers.
Stalls selling Christmas produce, crafts and gifts will line the street and shops will remain open into the evening.
Although the major fairground rides have been taken away from the event in recent years, there will be plenty of rides including carousels and a Ferris wheel for small children at rates reduced specifically for the event.
There will also be an increase in sideshows to compliment the community groups’ stalls and local traders.
