IT WAS champagne and strawberries with a bet on the side for the ladies at Portishead Town Football Club.
While rain threatened to make Ladies Day at Ascot a wash-out, the Bristol Road clubhouse was transformed in to a VIP lounge for the day, to bring the horse racing event to Portishead.
Co-organiser Lyn Hatfield said: “We organised a ladies day at the club for the first time in 2010 and it was so popular we decided to run the event every year.”
Around 40 female club members dressed the part to cheer on the horses as they watched races from the famous Ascot course on big TV screens around the room.
Another of the organisers, Karen Excell, added: “It can be quite expensive to go to Ascot for the day so we thought, forget the coach travel, let’s recreate the atmosphere of Ladies Day right on our doorstep.”
