BUGS, birds and butterflies are just some of the creatures wildlife enthusiasts will be searching out at Portbury Wharf nature reserve this weekend.

Visitors to a free Springwatch Fair can take part in a creature count which will see the Avon Wlidlife Trust reserve go head-to-head with Willsbridge Mill reserve, in a challenge to see which site can record the most different species.

From 1pm on Sunday, the reserve off Sheepway on the outskirts of Portishead will host a range of family activities from pond dipping and music to market stalls and refreshments. A bird ringing demonstration will provide an opportunity to see a range of rare birds up close.

The site can be accessed via Sheepway, there is a small car park close to the hump back bridge. It can also be accessed from Wharf Lane.
