AS TEMPERATURES rose above freezing, thousands of people flocked to Portishead High Street for one of the busiest Victorian Evenings the town has seen.
The traditional street fair that dates back more than 30 years saw the town centre full of stalls, old fashioned rides and sideshows.
Scores of people got into the spirit of things and dressed in Victorian costume while traders tempted customers with mulled wine, mince pies and other festive fair.
Street entertainment ranged from the Salvation Army band and a quartet from Portishead Town Band to fiddlers, a gospel choir and St Joseph’s School swing band. Young people from Portishead Youth Centre provided dancing throughout the evening and a Christmas rock band concluded the evening.
Spokesman Barry Randall said: “The weather was on our side this year and everyone came out to support the event.
“The community spirit shown in this town is second to none and thankfully it looks as though Portishead will continue to have one of the best Christmas lights displays in the South West.”
