AN OPEN space in Portishead is to be renamed to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Portishead Town Council vice chairman John Clark has proposed that Central Park at Port Marine should be renamed Jubilee Park.
Councillor Clark said: “It has struck me for years that the developer’s name for the piece of land was more suited to Manhattan Island than Portishead and the Diamond Jubilee seemed an ideal time to take the opportunity to rename it and recognise the service her majesty has given to the country all these years.”
The renaming has been approved by North Somerset Council and a ceremony will take place in the park on June 1 at 2pm when a number of primary school children will assist with the unveiling of a plaque to mark the occasion.
