A WORLD class rugby player visited a Portishead school as part of the Sky Sports Living for Sports programme.
Gifted and talented athletes at Gordano School welcomed South African rugby union player Thinus Delport who talked to them about the challenges of a life dominated by sport.
Thinus made his senior debut in 1997 on the Springboks’ European Tour and has competed against some of the world’s greatest, while representing the southern hemisphere in his sport.
Gordano School has recently introduced a new support programme for elite athlete pupils who represent England or Great Britain or are of the equivalent standard.
These students have to juggle the demands of training, meeting school deadlines and enjoying normal activities and so the school is putting together a mentoring programme focusing on aspects including management, juggling workloads and the psychological pressures of competing.
