YOUNGSTERS across North Somerset dressed up to celebrate World Book Day on March 3.
World Book Day, which is marked in over 100 countries, aims to encourage more people to read.
Schools and libraries in the region led the way with a variety of themed events including fancy dress, book swaps, sponsored readings and competitions.
From enormous turnips and banana men to Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland, primary school children throughout the area dressed as their favourite book characters for the day, during which emphasis was placed on reading for pleasure. Some schools even asked pupils to return class in the evening, dressed in their pyjamas for a bed time story and cups of cocoa.
