A donation of over £250 has been made to Mind in Somerset following Nailsea & Tickenham's Toolstation Western League Premier match with Ilfracombe Town recently.

There were signs around Fryth Way and a question and answer session before the game on the pitch with Victoria Poole from Mind in Somerset and Ian Nockolds from the Toolstation Western League.

Spectators were able to make their donations from the terraces into collection boxes or by donating at the bar through the club's Mind in Somerset button on the till system and a total of £254 was raised for the mental health charity.

The match finished 3-3 after the Swags went 2-0 ahead through strikes from Lloyd Mills and Luke Osgood but goals from Blake Shapland, Dan Wilson and Jack Magarotto turned the encounter on its head before Mills' second helped both sides earn a share of the spoils.

Poole, Fundraising Manager at Mind in Somerset, said: “Mind in Somerset is delighted to be working with the Western Premier League. The partnership not only helps us raise vital funds but also promote of awareness of mental health. Mental health affects everyone and we are here to help."

Nockolds, Communications Officer with the Toolstation Western League, added: “I’m delighted with how Nailsea & Tickenham embraced the Western League’s partnership with Mind in Somerset, the Club went above and beyond in advertising what we were trying to do and I’m sure the charity will have benefited massively.

"It’s also got people talking about mental health and at this time of the year, just knowing there are people to talk to, people who can help, makes such a difference. On behalf of the Western League I’d like to thank the Club, both sets of supporters and all the wonderful volunteers that made this day so special.”

Chairman Bob Gregory continued: "Mental Health is something that we hear about every day in the news or in conversation, so to be able to help spread the awareness in our local community is so important to a club like us and any funds raised will for sure help in a massive way.

“The game itself was a fantastic watch for everyone and was end to end. The supporters from both sides I think will say that a draw in the end was a fair result.”
