WITH the local elections fast approaching, it is important to know what each party aims to do.
The Green Party have released the names of the candidates who are standing in this year's elections, as well as an outline of their local priorities.
The elections will take place on Thursday, May 4.
Local Objectives
A spokesperson for The Green Party has outlined some of their local objectives:
"A Fairer, Greener District: Green Party councillors voted to support the budget priorities which were: backing our children and young people, delivering better basic services, investing in our communities and tackling the climate emergency. We worked collaboratively with councillors from other parties showing how local politics can be done differently.
"Delivery of the Climate Emergency Action Plan: Covid showed how much our beautiful landscape was valued and appreciated. Since being elected the Greens have support improvements and investment in footpaths in our villages. Greens have supported the rewilding programme and planting of over 30,000 trees.
"The Green group opposed the expansion of Bristol Airport at all stages.
"Bridget as cabinet member for the Climate Emergency introduced the Carbon Literacy Organisation which is nationally recognised.
"Promoting Active Travel. Backwell has now got 20mph zones along it’s residential roads helping residents of all ages feel safer walking and cycling. In Long Ashton Stuart has made a promised crossing finally happen so his residents can walk to Ashton Court safely crossing the B3128.
"Leigh Woods has been the pilot location for the first residents permit parking scheme and on street EV charging in the district.
"Bridget has joined accessibility forums to listen to the experience of those living with a disability and understand the challenges they have using public transport and with council services.
"North Somerset has successfully bid for further support for buses with the WESTlink service.
"A more responsive Council. We aim to agree a governance review with partners, looking at moving to a Committee System. Since being elected Greens have delivered on bringing about change in North Somerset.
"Right Home, Right Price, Right Place. A call for building zero carbon affordable homes. This will be delivered by updating the planning requirements and ensuring that the Strategic Plan prioritises these issues."
