The WESTlink bus service has officially launched

The buses can be booked via an app, website, or phone, and are widely available to people that may not have easy access to a local service.

The WESTlink service, which has 30 buses in total, allows passengers to book a journey to take them either to a key main bus and train service, or to other bus stops.

The WESTlink service is part of North Somerset’s Bus Improvement Service Plan (BSIP). It is hoped that this will make bus travel across North Somerset faster, more convenient, better coordinated and better for the environment than running a car. 

Although there won't be a set timetable or route, the service will run Monday to Saturday from 7am until 7pm.

Hours may differ during bank holidays.

The price for a journey is £2 per adult, £1 per child until the end of June, and concessionary bus passes are also accepted.

Fares will then be charged at standard commercial service costs, in line with Government guidelines from July. 

Areas are separated into zones, with North Somerset having the largest area including some of Weston and Nailsea, Clevedon, Portishead, Yatton, Bristol Airport and Chew Valley. 

When speaking about the service, Cllr Mike Bell, deputy leader of the Council and executive member for adult services, health and housing, said: "Passengers can book a journey on the phone or via the app and will receive instructions on how to catch the bus - usually from a nearby stop - and how long the waiting time will be.

"The system then cleverly optimises the best route for the driver to take for all passengers who have booked.

"You might need to make a change from one on-demand bus to another or via a scheduled service to make a long journey."

To book a journey using the App, download the ‘WESTlink’ App via the Apple App Store or Google Play by searching WESTlink and create an account.

Alternatively, passengers can phone 0117 457 8561. The number is charged at local rates and available from Monday, April 3. Getting reliable transport has never been easier.
