PORTISHEAD residents took advantage of free safety advice at a number of roadshows in the town, set up to mark National Personal Safety Day.

With this year’s campaign being Tech No Chances, members of the Portishead police team visited Gordano School and public car parks in their community contact vehicle to discuss the dangers of modern technology with students and members of the public.

PCSO Deborah Charman said: “Technology is a wonderful thing that few of us could do without, but there can be risks associated with some technology and our roadshows highlighted this.”

Subjects on the agenda included why wearing earphones on the streets can put people in danger, and how mobile phones can act as a dangerous distraction in public, putting users at risk.
