young people were rewarded for their commitment to volunteering with a weekend of surfing.
The volunteers from Portishead Youth Centre were awarded the free surf weekend in Devon after being nominated by youth workers in a project run by the charity Community Action Through Sport (CATS).
The young people organise discos and run activities including games and competitions with 11-14-year-old youth club members. They all attend training sessions which also allows them to work in the coffee bar and kitchen.
Youth centre assistant manager Kim Dodd said: “These young people are a great asset to the staff team at the youth club on Thursday evenings.”
The surfing trip gave the volunteers the chance to mix with volunteers from other youth organisations in the region.
