On and around November 5 people all over the country will be building bonfires and holding spectacular firework displays to mark the night in history, in 1605, when Guy Fawkes and his team tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament.
It's unlikely everyone stops to think about why firework displays take place at this time of year but it's a good excuse to have fun with friends.
Clevedon
The fantastic Firework Fantasia at Dial Hill, organised by Clevedon Round table, takes place on Saturday November 2. Gates open at 5pm, for a bonfire at 6pm and fireworks beginning at 6.30pm. Tickets are on sale at Tesco, Kenn Road.
Portishead
Portishead Football Club is back with its firework extravaganza, promising a bigger and better than ever display at its Bristol Road ground on Friday November 1. A child friendly display will take place at 7pm (no loud bangs) and will be followed by the main event
at 7.30pm.
The event will include a firework themed market, which will include food and drink, a fully licensed bar and a barbecue.
Tickets purchased in advance will cost £5 for adults and £1,50 for children. Admission on the gate will cost £7 for adults and £2.50 for children. There is no charge for those under five years of age. n
