A cross-dressing comedy about the royal family’s battle with Britain’s continental cousins during the 1800s will be performed in Clevedon next month.

Parlour Games will be at Theatre Shop in Clevedon on October 5 and 6.

The show, created and performed by Sharp Teeth Theatre, will explore politics, royalty and passion – all with a comedic twist.

Set in mid-19th century England, Parlour Games is a two-man production starring Gaulier-trained clown Lucy Harrington as Prince Albert and 6ft 3ins Peter Baker as the Queen herself.

A Theatre Orchard spokesman said: “It is 1848 and Europe is revolting. As foreign royals topple at an alarming rate, how long will it be before the whispers of revolution reach the proud shores of old Blighty?

“With an isolated, post-natal Queen intent on playing solitaire, can the future of the British monarchy be saved before those dastardly working classes start uprising or will it all end in a real-life wink murder?

“Expect clowning, cream cakes and jokes about history in this gender-bending new show which asks why Britain refuses to play by continental rules.”

Performances will start at 7.30pm with a 2pm matinee on October 6.

Tickets, priced £12, are available online or by calling 03336 663366.
