A Bristol theatre company will be flying high as it stages a popular family show at the Hippodrome next month.

Bristol’s own multi-award-winning drama company, BLOC Productions, present Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as their latest musical sensation, following the success of My Fair Lady, Fiddler On The Roof, Sunset Boulevard and Sister Act.

Eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts sets about restoring an old race car with the help of his children.

They discover the car has magical powers but trouble starts when the evil Baron wants the car for himself.

With his family in tow and a new love interest, the show promises some crazy goings-on which will make the audience both laugh and cry.

Audiences will be treated to some brilliant song and dance routines as well as spectacular staging.

Musical numbers include Truly Scrumptious, Toot Sweets, Me ‘Ol Bam Boo and the title song Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

BLOC chairman Susanne Donovan said: “We are delighted to have been offered this rare opportunity for a non-professional company to stage Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

“We are very excited to be bringing it to the Hippodrome, our Bristol home for more than 60 years, in September.”

The show is based on the 1964 novel by Ian Fleming.

It was then loosely interpreted into a motion picture written by Richard M Sherman and Robert B Sherman, the masterminds behind Mary Poppins starring Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews.

It was laster adapted for the stage by Jeremy Sams.

The original film featured Van Dyke, Sally Ann Howes and Adrian Hall among other stars.

Join the production team on a musical adventure with an out-of-this-world car.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will be at the Bristol Hippodrome, in St Augustines Parade, from September 18-22 at 7.30pm each night. There will be an additional performance at 2.30pm on September 19 and 22.

Tickets, £20-34.90, are available from or from 08448 713012.
