A film based around the life of a bored teenager at a California school will be screened next week in Portishead.

Lady Bird, starring Saoirse Ronan, was nominated for five Oscars upon its release two years ago.

Set in 2002, the film follows Christine McPherson (Ronan) whose dreams of going to art college are hindered by her family’s lack of money.

It leads to tension at home and the film highlights the dark, raw and emotional nature of family relationships at times of struggle.

Lady Bird will be shown on Friday by Portishead Film.

The screening starts at 8pm, with doors opening 30 minutes beforehand, at Jubilee Hall, in Slade Road.

Tickets, priced £5, will be available to buy on the night.
