A SPECIAL event at Portishead Working Men’s Club on Saturday night is expected to see scores of Portishead residents take a trip down memory lane.

The Somerset Paddies appear at the Slade Road club for a tribute to the ‘old dads of Brendon Road’.

Organised by the group’s accordion player Roger Gordon, the event hopes to reunite those who grew up in the Brendon Road and Mendip Road areas of the town during the 60s and 70s.

Roger said: “I grew up in a house Brendon Road and there were some big families on the estate.

“We were a very close knit community. Unfortunately many of us have lost our dads, who were all hard workers and I thought it was about time we paid tribute to them.”

Roger’s idea took off after he mentioned it to a few old friends and Portishead Working Man’s Club in Slade Road was only too happy to provide the venue.

The evening is open to everyone with free admission for club members and £1 for guests.

Doors open at 7.30pm and the live music will begin around 9pm.
