A Bristol-based band will launch their first studio album with a gig in the city at the weekend.

Appalachia will release The Judgment on Saturday with a performance at Colston Hall.

The band has been referred to as bluegrass with a twist but, although all four members have a passion for the genre, they actually come from different musical backgrounds.

The new album, the follow-up to Appalachia’s 2011 live album, Live!, has been written by all four band members and contains nine tracks covering a range of subject, emotions and views, some political, performed in Blue Grass, Americana and Boogie Woogie styles.

The group often use a single bluegrass microphone in order to get the as much colour an dynamism as possible from their unique use of acoustic instruments and vocal harmonies in the Americana style.

The album launch, which will be held in the foyer performance area of Colston Hall, will come after the launch of the Bristol Acoustic Music Festival the same afternoon.

Entry to the launch is free and the event starts at 6.15pm. For more information click here
