Thirty years ago, Andrei Filipov, the renowned conductor of Russia’s Bolshoi orchestra, was fired for hiring Jewish musicians, including his best friend Sacha Grossman, during the communist era.

Now, aged 50, he still works at the Bolshoi but as a cleaner.

But then Andrei finds a fax - an invitation for the orchestra to play at Pleyel in Paris in two weeks time as a last minute replacement for the San Francisco Philharmonic Orchestra.

Le Concert

He decides to gather together his former musicians to perform in place of the current Bolshoi orchestra.

As a solo violin player to accompany his old Jewish and Gypsy musicians, Andrei wants Anne-Marie Jacquet, a young virtuoso.

The very special concert is sure to be a triumph if only they can all overcome the hardships ahead.

Le Concert will be shown at The Curzon Community Cinema at 7.45pm from Friday until August 5.

* Also showing at 2pm every day until August 5 is Shrek Forever After (U).

In the fourth movie of the Shrek series, the lovable ogre teams up with Rumpelstiltskin for his latest adventure.

The Dreamworks film features many popular characters such as Puss and Donkey and includes voices from Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas
