Manager Alex White said Clevedon Town need to change their effort and desire from their last meeting with Ashton & Backwell United which will hopefully lead to a “positive result” in their local Derby this Saturday.

The Seasiders were defeated 3-2 by the United last September, which was the Stags’ first ever win in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division on their eighth attempt.

“It was a real low for us at the time, we hit rock bottom and that’s no disrespect to Ashton & Backwell at all, that’s just the run we were on,” he said.

“They deserved to beat us on the day, and beat us on effort and desire.

“That’s what we have to change for the weekend if we want to win the game.

That’s what our supporters want to see in local derbies and as long as we match that, we hope that technically we’ll have enough to get a positive result.”

Both teams have seen changes with new managers at the helm in the last four months.

Tony Beecham took over the role at United where he replaced Charlie Rich while White was named Micky Bell’s successor in October.

Under Bell Clevedon had taken three wins from their first 16 games this season.

But under White he has led the Seasiders to six victories in his first 11 games, including four wins, two draws and one defeat on their travels in all competitions

And he was full of praise for Beecham, who has led the Lancer Scott Stadium outfit to back-to-back wins in 2022 against Cadbury Heath and Mousehole.

“It’s a local Derby isn’t it and we feel like we owe them one to be honest after they beat us earlier in the season,” he said.

“We know what to expect, they are on fire at home at the moment but so are we on the road.

“I think it will be a cracking game. Beech has really turned it around there and has done a super job, we’ve had some great battles down the years and I have a lot of respect for him.”
