Weston over-60's secured a place in the regional final of the WFA National Cup after coming from behind to beat Clevedon Town recently.

In their local derby they came up against a hard working, very well organised Clevedon team.

And almost straight from kick off Nigel Woods disposed Ian Nicholls in midfield and drove forwards and hit a tremendous shot that flew into the goal via the post with John Hembrow.

The early setback spurred Weston on and they quickly got into there usual game, Lach Geddes, Pete Dawes and Nicholls took control of the game and the Seagulls dictated the rest of the first half.

Nigel Clarke, in the Clevedon goal, was in tremendous form as he made several saves from Paul Randall, Nicholls and Pete Dawes.

The best of Clarke's first half saves was a half-volley from Geddes that was going into the top corner of the goal but some how Clarke got his finger tips to it and pushed the ball onto the crossbar.

The relentless pressure on Clevedon's goal finally paid off just before half time when a lovely passing move between Geddes, Randall and Dawes was finished off with a tremendous shot from Nicholls, his shot rifling into the bottom corner of the goal.

Weston started off the second half on the front foot and put some great moves together, Dawes scored two superb goals and Nicholls finished the goal scoring to make it 4-1 to Weston.

In the second half Clarke again was outstanding making numerous quality saves, Randall was a constant threat up front,

Weston player manager Arie van Vliet said he was delighted with his side's performance, where the Seagulls take on Highworth Town in the regional final next month.

"We played good football today, (Pete) Dawes, (Ian) Nicholls, (Rich) Bourton, (Paul) Randall, (Lach) Geddes, (Mark) Hooper, (Paul) Trower, played some great team football today.

"(John) Hembrow was again quality, we came here and full credit to Clevedon they worked hard but the lads reacted well and showed character after going one down early and really showed how good we can play.

"I have to mention Nigel Clarke the Clevedon goal keeper who was in fantastic form, we now look forward to the WFA Regional final against Highworth Town.

"I am hoping we get a home draw, can I also thank the large contingent of Weston fans who travelled and were supporting us at Clevedon".
