Following his disappointment at the European Championships last month, John Mason has been back in action with a top 10 finish in the overall standings at the inaugural Cardiff city triathlon.

The event attracted over 1,200 competitors to the Cardiff Bay area with John competing in the Olympic distance race.

He completed the 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run in wet and windy conditions in just two hours and two minutes, putting his Italy run behind him by posting a 36.17 split.

John said: “Having trained for the longer distance, I’m really surprised by the time, it’s been a while since I’ve run that fast, but I was in a close race with two others. I managed to drop them in the last kilometre, but the pace was high all the way.”

Coverage of the race will be on Channel 4 in the next couple of weeks.
