BACKWELL’S Tim Griffiths picked up a bronze medal at last weekend’s Shotokan Cup, a national competition for the Karate Union of Great Britain’s brown and black belts.

Griffiths’ medal came in the Male Senior Kata event, where karate exponents from across the country performed advanced katas (pre-arranged sequences), judged by a panel of five referees. This national placing followed up on a silver won earlier this year at the Southern Region Championships, capping off what has been a successful year for the club as a whole.

Nailsea and Backwell Karate hold classes three times a week and are currently accepting new members, including for a special children’s course starting next month. For more information, visit www.backwellkarate.org
