Three-way battle for the title

A three-way battle for honours has opened up for the Wrington Vale Billiards League.
BACKWELL Village Club played host to the battle between Wrington Vale Billiards League leaders Backwell B and their nearest challengers Tina’s Boys.
George Rowe opened for the home side and soon realised he was up for a difficult evening against an in-form Tina Owen-Sevilton who, after hitting a break of 31, knocked in her highest-ever league break, a brilliantly constructed run of 64.
Despite this, George was by no means outclassed and it was only right at the end that Tina went in front to win by 14.
In the second game, Steve Rees was playing his first game of billiards for over three months and facing him was the league’s number one player, Brian Harvey. Even with a handicap advantage of 400 points, Steve looked in trouble as Brian reeled off increasingly large breaks culminating in a 78.
However, Steve was not overawed and in the second half upped his game and after knocking in a couple of teen breaks recorded a good run of 25, which enabled him to complete a great win for the leaders by 41.
With the visitors only having two players, skipper Bob Selby had to make the decision on which of his opponents to play, eventually choosing Brian reasoning that this might give him a better chance of taking the bonus point as well.
He couldn’t have been more wrong though as on his first visit to the table, Brian took advantage of a loose break by Bob and ran up a break of 84. It got no better for an out of touch Bob as Brian knocked in three more 50+ breaks as he closed out a comfortable 150-69 win.
The top three teams are now separated by just two points and it appears to be a three-way battle for the title.
