THREE teams jointly lead the Wrington Vale Billiards League as the season gets underway.

In the match between Double Baulkers and Backwell A, Brian Harvey steadily cleared his -375 handicap, but was not enough, however, as Derek Ellis claimed victory.

In the second game, Tony McKee beat Martyn Howell to draw the match level. The third game saw Dave Darling playing Backwell’s Pete Wood in an epic battle, with the lead changing places several times. Darling just won by three shots.

Birthday boy George Rowe started off in a similar vein to last week for Backwell B, matching Congresbury’s Dave Larner point for point in the early stages. However, Larner powered in to win by 33. Dennis Mansfield struggled to score early on against Reuben Hurse, who went on to win by 22.

Irving Prowse almost caught Bob Selby up at the 30 point mark, before Selby moved into a 126-61 lead. Prowse hit back and went in front 144-138, but Selby came back to win by two.

In the canons individual cup Tina Owen-Sevilton lost a close match to Derek Ellis by 125-121.

Breaks: Brian Harvey 41, 38, 36, 34, 22, 22, 22, 20; Wayne Ticer 41; Roy Jenkins 32, 26, 21; Jeff Jones 31; Derek Ellis 29; Reuben Hurse 27, 22; Darren Solomon 23; Martyn Howell 20.
