Wimbledon may be coming to an end, but there is plenty of opportunity to pick up a racquet and play after Clevedon Lawn Tennis celebrated the opening of its new and improved clubhouse on Sunday.
The event coincided with the club's annual open day which saw crowds of people attend the site in Princes Road to take advantage of free tennis sessions.
The ribbon to the new clubhouse was cut by North Somerset's Conservative MP, Dr Liam Fox, who paid tribute to the club's role in helping to keep people active.
He said: "At a time when obesity is a major challenge for our healthcare system, it is wonderful to be celebrating the continuing success of one of our great local sports facilities.
"Having an open day is an excellent way of attracting even more people into the sport."
The club's committee unanimously voted that the work should go ahead at an AGM three months ago with a budget of £55,000 set aside for the work.
Mandy Vickers, club secretary, believes the total amount of the refurbishment will be slightly lower than the budgeted figure.
She said: "The extension was mainly to add a men's changing room.
"There was not much more than a men's toilet before but now there are two showers and a toilet.
"We have also extended the whole of the back of the clubhouse to incorporate a kitchen and lounge.
"The lighting, which was quite harsh strip lighting, has been replaced with lovely spotlights and we have also re-done the flooring.
"We have painted the whole place and have put in some really nice furniture.
"Our budget was £55,000 but, although we are still doing some sums, we know we have spent less than that.
"Everybody is delighted it is open and that we now have a really super clubhouse for people to enjoy."
As well as the clubhouse opening, people of all ages enjoyed full use of the club's facilities as well as being treated to a bar, barbecue and raffle.
