CLEVEDON Lawn Tennis Club held it’s first Red Nose Day tournament.

Around 20 adults played in a fun fancy dress tournament which was open to members and non members. Vicky Potter who came dressed as a bumble bee won the tournament and Mike Bould was runner-up.

The prize for the best fancy dress costume went to Norman Thompson, who came as the infamous John McEnroe and stayed in character throughout the tournament. A highly commended went to Mike Dale for his exceptional Buzz Lightyear costume.

Whilst the adults enjoyed their tournament junior coaches entertained the children with mini tennis and an obstacle course. The children also came in fancy dress with costumes ranging from Jessie, from Toy Story, to pirates and princesses. Prizes were awarded to Alice Bould’s Snow White and Oliver Smith’s Action Man.

The club also held a Red Nose Day sweepstake which was won by Kate Bould, who kindly donated her winnings to Comic Relief. The club also held a raffle with prizes donated by members and children enjoyed racing miniature red noses against each other.

Club President, Margaret Dyer, who dressed up as Mrs Blobby, was awarded lifetime membership after being a member at the club for 60 years.

■ CLEVEDON’S first team claimed an important win in Avon’s Division 1.

Clevedon, playing away at Redlands Bristol Tennis Club, won their penultimate match in the division, which could have sealed a league win for the first time in Clevedon’s history.

The team consisted of Mike Dale, James Bassett, Kat Rolfe and Josie Vickers. Mike and James won a close men’s doubles 7-6, 7-6, having been a break down in each set. Kat and Josie played excellently to overcome a strong Bristol pair 6-3, 6-1.

The mixed doubles saw James and Josie win by two sets, but Mike and Kat were edged out in three close sets. Clevedon won the match 8-2.

This weekend, Clevedon play their last two matches of the season. The team currently sit top of both the North Somerset and Avon Division 1s. Two wins should secure both league titles.
