Conservative A team beat their B team in a derby match in the Clevedon & District Snooker League.

THERE was a derby match at the Clevedon Conservative Club in the Clevedon & District Snooker League, with Conservative A the home side against the B team.

Home captain Ashley Hind got his team off to a good start, despite struggling to pot colours in the first half of the frame. He eventually beat Dave Brooks 59-14. Phil Daniels doubled the lead by potting a long black in a close frame, which saw him beat Mark Litson 59-57.

The match was won when Mark Walsh dominated his frame to win 63-14 over Dave Sansum. Due to Conservative A only have three players on the night, Hind was up again for the fourth frame and had to forfeit 20 points to Mark Adams.

Hind played well, but a fluked green ball led to Adams clearing the table with a 25 break to win 83-58 - more than the 20 points given at the beginning.

The pairs frame was between Daniels and Walsh for Conservative A and Adams and Sansum for Conservative B. It was a close frame, but one mistake led to the A pair winning 56-47. Final score Conservative A 4, Conservative B 1.

The second match on the night was in Portishead between league leaders Portishead A and Mizzymead. Pete Skinner won the first frame for the hosts against Frank Archer 51-16 and Paul Honess made it 2-0 with a 70-32 points win over Colin Tucker.

Ron Reeves beat Trevor Yeo 57-42 in a closer frame that the previous two, but it was enough to ensure the match win. Steve King made a 21 break in his frame against Bob Selby as he cruised to victory 63-21.

The pairs frame was close, but eventually went to Honess and King as they beat Simon Cambridge and Tucker 50-39. Final Score Portishead A 5, Mizzymead 0.

The 5-0 win extends Portishead A’s lead at the top of the table to three points.

The table now reads: Portishead A (played 13) 50 pts; Conservative A (14) 47; Portishead RH (14) 28; Mizzymead (14) 24; Conservative B (12) 21.

Tonight (Wed) will see the fourth round of the Knockout Cup and the league will return the following week. After this, there will be cup matches played on some Wednesdays in March and all players are reminded that quarter-final matches must be played by March 1.
