CLEVEDON Community School pupil Katie Grinyer finished her cross-country season in style, coming 46th out of 347 runners in the junior girls event at the National Aviva schools cross-country championships in Nottingham.

Katie, who was the first Avon athlete home, ran an intelligent well-paced race, overtaking runners in the second half of the hilly Wollaton Park course.

Katie also runs for North Somerset Athletics Club. Her performance was a fitting climax to an eventful season which included winning the Under-15 girls’ event at the Avon County Championships in Bath last December.

Other Clevedon Community School runners who did well in Nottingham were Harry Thornton, who came 179th in the senior boy’s race and Estella Lertxundi-Willis, who came 215th in the junior girls’ race.
