Gryphons travelled to Blandford Forum for a fixture between two teams who boasted 100 per cent winning records so far this season.

From the first whistle it was clear that this was going to be an attritional affair. Gryphons took the lead against the run of play through Amy Barkus, but this spurred on Blandford, who equalised a few minutes later.

Gryphons thought they had scored from a penalty corner, only for the umpire to disallow the goal, much to the bewilderment of both teams.

The second half continued in the same way, a start-stop affair, with Gryphons constantly over hitting passes on a fast pitch but, when they did manage to string a few passes together, they always threatened the hosts’ goal.

During these productive periods of play, Gryphons added a further two goals from Barkus, her second of the game and Cheryl Harding.

Late on, Gryphons conceded a second goal, but managed to hold firm until the final whistle, securing a well-earned victory and also maintaining their winning start to the season.

Man of the match was Amy Barkus.
