Albeit only week four of the league season, Somerset Gryphons Ladies again faced opposition that were undefeated.

Yeovil started the game full of confidence, pegging Gryphons back for the first 15 minutes. However, Gryphons keeper Jackie Plumley and the efence of Becky Urch, Lis Dane, Verity Summerell and Hannah Holden repelled the early onslaught. Gryphons slowly but surely began to assert themselves with two quick goals by Lis Dane and Amy Barkus.

The reminder of the first-half ebbed and flowed until the last two minutes where Yeovil scored to reduce the score to 2-1. A minute later, Lara Ford restored Gryphons’ two-goal cushion with an acute angle strike for the top of the D.

The second period started in the same vein as the first-half with Yeovil dominating the early exchanges, but again Gryphons clawed their way back into the game, going on to dominate proceedings with a fourth goal scored by Elaine Basterfield.

This was Elaine’s first league goal and richly deserved, given her extreme work rate and contribution in every game so far this season.

Player of the match was Emma Hamilton with her fantastic work rate and domination in midfield is worth mentioning.

On Saturday, the ladies travel to B&SN in Blandford Forum, who like the Gryphons have won all four opening games this season.
