Clevedon Tennis Club have started the league season well with victories in the national, North Somerset and Avon Leagues.

CLEVEDON Tennis Club entertained Bude in the National League and recorded a comfortable victory.

The following week Clevedon endured the long trip down to Truro, which proved a much tougher proposition against the Cornish champions. However, Clevedon secured victory after winning both doubles matches to go home with a vital away victory.

Once again youngster Cookie Allen and James Bassett were unbeaten and pivotal in securing the points.

The first match of the North Somerset League season brought arch rivals Bridgwater to Princess Road. Clevedon were ready and selected the strongest team available and went on to win 10-1. Maggs and Bassett won both matches comfortably and Dale and Spink also managed two victories, although did make heavy weather of it.

Both the second and third teams also had easy victories against Avenue and Wedmore.

Clevedon have returned to the top division in the Avon League and started well with a crucial away win against David Lloyd in the opening fixture, which laid the foundations for the thrashing against a depleted Lansdown team the following week.

Clevedon may well surprise a few teams this year if they can keep the old guard fit & Youngster Seb Hind at 15 is pushing for a first team place with a few players unavailable.
