Academy gymnasts earn a silver medal in the prestigious junior British Team Championships.

SIX Academy gymnasts travelled over 300 miles to Newcastle, to compete in the junior British Team Championships – The Bill Slater, and returned home with a silver medal.

There were over 100 competitors and 17 teams from all over Great Britain vying for the prestigious team title. Led by coach Nia Edwards, The Academy was well represented by Maisie Dodds, Charlotte Bennett, Lizzie Franklin, Billie Corbett, Phoebe Turner and Eloise Aitken.

The Academy team started on vault and five clean Tsukhara vaults were performed with Charlotte placed third and Eloise fourth. There were a few minor errors on the bars, but the girls managed to keep things together with Maisie placed second.

The third piece of apparatus was the beam. Phoebe was the first Academy representative and competed in style to perform a clean routine. The last piece was floor and the girls showed excellent tumbling skills and fantastic choreography, with Eloise placed second.

The Academy team placed second on vault and bars and third on beam and floor. Their team total was 180.15, just 2.4 marks behind the winners Europa, enough to win the silver medal.

In the individual rankings, Eloise achieved the fifth highest score of the day with Phoebe in 11th.
