WITH Thornbury playing at home and riding high in the table and looking to reach the dizzy heights of South West One, it was always going to be a tough match for Yatton.

The home side kicked off with the advantage of the slope, knowing they needed a commanding lead by half-time. The plan worked and by the 20th minute, Thornbury were two tries up with a third arriving minutes later.

Meanwhile, Nic Raymond had slotted away two
penalties for Yatton, but Thornbury’s bonus try came on the half-time whistle at 26-6.

Yatton needed to score early on, but Thornbury scored another try, forging them even further ahead. But Yatton hit back, salvaging some pride with converted tries from both Nic Spellissy and Chris Harris in quick succession.

Thornbury rounded off a satisfactory display in front of their home crowd with another two tries, the last coming with the final play.

This Saturday, Yatton’s 1st XV host Barton Hill. The
2nd XV travel to Bristol Barbarians and the 3rd XV hope that this Saturdays fixture away against Imperial 2nds takes place.
