Yatton Colts defeated St Marys to reach their second cup final of the season.

Yatton Colts 30 pts

St Marys Colts 10 pts

YATTON opened the scoring in this Bristol Combination semi-final with a only penalty after three minutes.

But St Marys were determined that the home side and league champions were not going to have it all their own way. Although the visitors’ penalty attempt minutes later flew wide, it was quickly followed by a try from the halfway line.

The St Marys points advantage did not last long as Yatton found their rhythm and three tries were clocked up during the second quarter, each being grounded by a player from the pack with the first try being converted. The points tally turning around was 20-5.

Although Yatton were playing down the slope, St Marys broke out to score another try after 15 minutes.

With heat taking its toll, replacements added fresh legs. Two more unconverted tries secured the victory, the fourth being a scrum-half’s breakthrough in open play and the last, fittingly, by Yatton’s hooker to book his side’s place in the final.

In the final, Yatton will face Bath Colts at Broad Plain on May 1. The following week (May 8), Yatton take on Somerset Cup
holders Hornets in the final of the Somerset Cup.
