CLEVEDON Colts played their first game in three weeks and the early signs against Chard showed a lack of game time and training.

Clevedon stuck to the task and slowly started to take control with a well-taken try from Sam Puckle. Clevedon then lost their way again and Chard started to apply pressure, but the Clevedon defence held firm.

Strong play from the forwards, well led by captain Ben Squires soon took charge up front and swift hands from the backs saw Ozzie James race in for the second try, which was converted by Luke Blizzard.

Some choice words at half-time seemed to spur the players on and the second half was a much more structured affair with the scrum and line-out working well.

Chard crept back into the game with a try of their own, but Clevedon started to play an expansive game which the visitors could not handle.

As a result, Bizzard crossed for a try, Dom Hanley glided in for a fine individual try and Puckle scored two more for his hat-trick, with Blizzard converting for a final score of 34-5.

The Colts are home next week to Taunton, kick off 2.30pm.

Clevedon Under-14s enjoyed a good match with scores during the first half from Tom Lye (2), Ben Williams and a joint try by Matt Fisher and Sean Pegler.

A conversion by Kieran Hill brought the first half total to 22 points. Dings played better in the second half and were rewarded with a super try by Marlon Teakel, who also converted his try. Clevedon’s Will Mathias added another five points to bring the final score to 27-7 to Clevedon.

A fast and loose game ended with honours even as Clevedon Under-12s and Burnham took turns to score throughout the game.

Rami James and Tom Upton shone for Clevedon up front and there was some excellent tackling in the backs from Sam Poulter and Cameron Clemens, both saving tries. Clevedon try scorers were Tom Upton (2), Harry McMullin, James and Jack Houston. Ben Thole added five conversions.
