Nine young Nailsea & Backwell players have been picked to represent Somerset.

They will be involved in seven and 15-a-side tournaments in coming weeks against other local counties, showcasing the best talent in the South West.

Nailsea’s Fran Fry and Rebecca Lacey are in the under-18 squad, which is seen as a huge achievement as they are both in the first year in the age group.

The Ravens have provided seven players to the under-15s, including Olivia Pugh, Elsie Harris, Dolores Farrell, Mel Fudge, Hannah Turner, Sadie Worland and Ammber Carter, and have yet to be beaten this season.

Steve Whitwham said: “A huge congratulations to all the girls selected and representing Nailsea & Backwell at county events. This hard work by the players and success of the girls’ section at Nailsea & Backwell has been the culmination of four years hard work from all involved.

“Thank you to all the players involved in the club, the parents, the coaches, the committee and club members who help both behind the scenes on training and game days.”
