Archant

Nailsea & Backwell ran out convincing 59-7 winners over Hornets seconds on their return to action after Christmas.

Ben Perfect cut a superb line to touch down by the posts on eight minutes, with Jamie Elswood converting.

But they saw Hornets hit back to level during a sloppy period, before number eight Luke Caswell powered over in the final minute of the half and Elswood converted to make it 14-7.

It was one-way traffic in the second half as Perfect broke tackles to go under the posts, with Rob Baker adding the extras.

Caswell crashed over from a lineout catch and drive for the bonus-point try, before a dominant scrum forced a penalty try.

More good work from the pack allowed Caswell to complete his hat-trick from a five-metre scrum, before full-back Joe Reed ran in from 40 yards and converted himself.

Winger Harrison Gould produced a powerful run to bring up the half century, then drove over from a quick tap penalty after an earlier run had been stopped illegally.

Reed converted to complete the impressive Nailsea points tally ahead of a trip to Oldfield Old Boys next weekend (2.30pm).
