Nailsea & Backwell began their season with a 26-20 win over Wells at West End Park on Saturday.

Ryan Love countered from a loose clearing kick early on, with Mike Frohlich sending Tom Crossman over for a try converted by Jamie Elswood.

Aaron Cook kicked a penalty in reply, before Alex Knight went over from close range for a converted try to put Wells 10-7 up.

But Joe Reed saw a gap to touch down before the break and Elswood converted to give Nailsea & Backwell a 14-10 lead.

A good backs move saw Adam Withers go over in the second half, with Cook adding the conversion and a penalty to make it 20-14 to Wells.

But Elswood went over for a try, which he converted, and Dickie Palmer touched down late on to seal a bonus point.

Tries from man of the match Scott Weaver, Tom Fletcher, Ben Perfect, Reece Holland and George Stirling saw the seconds beat their Burnham rivals 29-17.
