Rugby: Nailsea & Backwell beaten at Weston
PUBLISHED: 18:00 17 April 2019
Nailsea & Backwell fell to a 40-21 defeat at local rivals Weston United, where they finished with 14 men.
The hosts opened the scoring when a clearing kick was gathered and sent to the full-back who ran past several tacklers.
Elwood's deep kicks into the 22 gave Nailsea hope but they saw good chances go begging after twice camping on the line.
Sam Bigley intercepted a loose pass to run under the posts and level as Ryan Love ran hard at the Weston defence.
But the visitors conceded three converted tries in the closing stages of the first half to turn around 28-7 down.
Ryan Barrow nade a difference after the break, but Nailsea were left shorthanded by a red card although young prop Will Marley crashed over.
Weston replied with a try out wide on an overlap, before receiving a yellow card, and a quick tap penalty and chip kick led to a third Nailsea try from James Cleaves.
But after further yellows for both teams, Weston used the overlap to score one more try before the final whistle.
