Local clubs were well represented as Somerset finished runners-up in the Bill Beaumont County Championship.

The county squad ran in eight tries to beat Sussex 56-24 at Taunton, with a dozen of the players hailing from three rival outfits.

Weston's Huw Morgan, Marcus Nel, Kadin Brocks, Brad Talbot and George Bamsey lined up alongside Rob Dempsey, Charlie Carter, Ozzie James and Quentin Querl from Hornets and Brian Largenton from Clevedon.

And Dempsey, James, Talbot and Carter were among the try scorers with Carter also kicking eight conversions.

A spokesman said: "With 12 of the squad from our local clubs it shows the strength in depth and passion to represent Somerset still remains in the town."
