Wadebridge were in the driving seat early on, but Clevedon kept them at bay. A slick handling movement resulted in a try for the hosts.

Clevedon hit back with a fine move for Ashley Vailes to score a try under the posts, which Mike Taylor converted. Clevedon held on to this slim lead until just before the break when Wadebridge kicked a penalty to lead 8-7.

The second half saw the hosts up their game and increased their lead with a well-worked converted try. Clevedon started to struggle in the scrums against a heavier pack and Wadebridge kicked another penalty and further increased their lead when a promising attack by Clevedon broke down and the hosts scored a try in the corner.

Wadebridge now went for a bonus point, but the Clevedon defence held firm. In fact, the closing stages were dominated by Clevedon, who had a try disallowed.

Clevedon managed to score their second try when Harvey Russell, again Clevedon’s man of the match, went over from a five metre scrum. Clevedon’s forwards battled hard, with Matt Honour well to the fore.

On Saturday, Clevedon are home to Walcot (2.30pm). Vice-president’s buffet at 1.30pm.
