ANGLER Mark O’Brien has set a new Clevedon Pier record when he landed an 18lb 8oz blonde ray.

ANGLER Mark O’Brien has set a new Clevedon Pier record when he landed an 18lb 8oz blonde ray.

The previous record of 12lb 6oz had stood since 2008. Mark, a train driver for DB Schenker in Bristol, has only been a member of the Clevedon Pier Sea Angling Club since last September.

The female fish which was thought to have entered the Bristol Channel to spawn, was released unharmed.

■ Clevedon resident Brian Perry also broke a pier record last month. The fish was a thornback ray and weighed 16lb 8ozs.
