Portishead pool to extend Christmas swim seasons

Portishead’s pool will for the first time in its history be open in December to offer swimmers a warm swim.
The lido will be open to everyone from December 23-26.
While the Christmas Day swimming session is a regular fixture in Portishead’s diaries, the extended winter season will no doubt please people who fancy a dip during the festive period.
Pool spokesman Barbara Thatcher said it will be perfect for any parent not sure what to do with the children over the school holiday, or anyone who is keen to work off some of the inevitable Christmas calories.
She said “We are very excited about this new initiative.
“We think it will be very popular and could even rival the appeal of the ice rink at Cribbs shopping centre.
“It’s creating quite a buzz on social media already and 200 tickets sold online in the first six hours.”
The open air pool has been in operation for 56 years and this is the first time the boilers will be switched on in mid-December to warm up the water.
The pool will be heated to 28C and there will be one-hour time slots for swimmers to use the pool over the four days.
Every session will be ticketed, with the exception of the Christmas Day plunge where visitors will be asked to make a donation and entry will be conducted on a first-come basis.
Sessions will run from 3-7pm on December 23, 10am-2pm on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, 10-11.30am on Christmas Day.
Pool volunteers say times may be extended depending on ticket sales.
Tickets, priced £5.98, are available online at www.eventbrite.co.uk
