Nailsea Ladies started slowly and were a little panicky, knowing this was going to be a tough game.
The defence however, settled in quickly and were outstanding throughout. Zoe Pople and Hannah Clarke combined well in the middle supported efficiently by Chloe Smith and Kim Thomas at right and left back.
The short corners were dealt with cleanly and keeper Laura Pople played magnificently all game, taking player of the match for her performance.
Nailsea took the lead when captain Gee Corner dribbled through the defence and put a reverse sweep pass onto the stick of Jo Harris. Another reverse stick shot and the ball slammed into the right corner.
Winscombe came back, capitalising on a snick off Smith’s stick when defending a short corner to make it square at the break.
Despite going down 2-1, Nailsea settled into a better rhythm in this half, implementing their game of possession and protection. They battled hard and kept the pressure at a high, keeping their passing slicker and controlled.
Another attack from the captain following a free hit outside the D, saw her fire into the left corner from the top to level the score with 12 minutes to go.
The tension was evident in both teams and both battled for the three points but had to be content to share.
The second team were well beaten by Knowle, losing 4-1.
