SOME excellent hockey was played in this re-arranged match, with both sides working well and chances created at both ends.

Nailsea took the lead with a goal by Ali Hill and despite a great deal of effort, this remained the only goal of the match.

Due to holiday time, Nailsea were required to draft in a couple of second team players, but everyone slotted in and adapted well. At the back, Tess Hughes anticipated keenly and commanded her defence efficiently.

Defenders Zoe Buck and Danni Doule combined well, remaining solid and robbing Gryphons at every opportunity. Good marking kept the home side struggling to up their game, while Doule was particularly effective inside the D.

Harriet Green and Abi Shorney were creative in attack and Jen Roach and Helen Harrington lively in midfield. Helen, as usual, provided support in both attack and defence.

This was a good result for Nailsea, keeping them in the top half of the table.
