Clevedon karter Connor Hall warmed up for the British Championships with a fine victory at Shennington Kart Club.

CLEVEDON karter Connor Hall competed in the Shennington Kart Club race meeting as a warm up to the British Championships.

With a strong field of drivers in the senior class (Connor being the youngest) and his first time at the track for over two years, he had a tough task on his hands. Not only that, Connor missed out on the Friday testing due to other commitments.

With limited practice due to the volume of entries, it was key for Connor to work well with Strawberry Racing and set the kart up for Sunday’s race.

In the first heat, he was hit off the track and came back from last to fourth place. In the second heat, Connor started fifth and won, placing him second on the grid for the final.

Being on the outside at the start, he was forced wide, but managed to stay on the tarmac and after the first lap came round in fourth place. He closed down the drivers in from of him and picked them off one at a time.

On the fifth lap he dived into the lead, with two drivers were glued to his bumper for a few laps, but with a number of consistent laps, all within 0.05 of a second, he managed to slowly pull out a comfortable lead and at the flag won by nearly three seconds.

As soon as Connor had finished the final on Sunday, he needed to shoot over to Silverstone for a test in an F4 car. This was a massive change from karting and also he was testing with seasoned drivers.

Despite never driven around Silverstone before and only having limited time in the car (around 10 laps), he adapted well and was mixing it with experienced drivers, setting quick times in tricky conditions.

After returning home, Connor had an early start the following day with a 7am driving lesson before his test, which thankfully he passed with flying colours.
