Bristol Karate Academy won two gold medals and had six other placings at the KUGB South West Championships in Exeter at the weekend.

Instructors Steve Connell and Dan Salter led by example as they won gold in the team kata alongside Annaliese House.

It was their second gold in as many weeks, after their success at the National Championships and Connell added another gold in the individual kata with a clean, sharp performance of Gojushiho Sho.

Brothers Josh and Liam Mashford won silver and bronze in their respective kumite categories, while Brandon Bennett picked up his second South West medal in two years in the kyu grade kata.

Alfie Teague, Mashford and Jack Salter also picked up a medal in the team kata after an excellent qualification.

The Academy is made up of clubs in Backwell, Nailsea, Long Ashton and Westbury-on-Trym. See bristolkarateacademy.com.
